2018 DFCE, Camp Cobark

What an absolutely awesome weekend we had at the Drifta Fans Camping Event at Camp Cobark. Got to meet a great bunch of people, best of all - MrBuckaroonie - whom inspired me to kick off my Youtube channel the same year.

We left home around 5am on Friday 18th May and arrived at Camp Cobark around 11:30am after a smooth run up the F3 with the little Suzuki towing the trailer without issue. Rolling through the gates and down into “Drifta HQ” was exciting, especially seeing the beautiful DOT campers on display straight away.
We set up camp beside the creek using my trusty #Barwon double swag and Chloe’s single swag under the #BCF #XTM awning. Mandy and my little mate Chloe handled the tent setup while I unpacked the rest of the gear and camp was sorted quickly.

The overnight temperatures dropped to around -3 or -4 degrees, freezing our billy water and even the ensuite tent zipper solid !
Thankfully the sleeping bag held up well.
A good big camp fire, hot breakfast and a nice big cuppa got Mandy up and going the next morning.

Saturday brought perfect weather in the mid-20’s and our new solar panel performed flawlessly, keeping the fridge running all
weekend through the CTEK setup. It was actually a really good test run for the new panels.

One of the best parts of the weekend was the atmosphere. The entire event felt like a genuine family camping gathering,
with everyone happy to chat, swap stories and show off their setups. Chloe and I spent time checking out the Drifta
displays, Snow Peak cooking gear and other peoples' camping setups around the grounds.

DFCE 2018

We had chicken kebabs and salad for dinner before wandering up to Drifta HQ
where the covers were rolled back on the big Drifta truck and local band the
“Bowden Brothers” kicked off a fantastic night of live music.
From country classics to newer hits, they kept the tunes flowing until close to midnight while everyone relaxed around the many Drifta fire pits with a cold beer in hand.

What really stood out was how well behaved and friendly the entire event was. With over 170 campsites and more than 500 people attending, there were no dramas at all — just like-minded campers enjoying the outdoors and sharing the same passion.
There were also organised day trips through the Barrington Tops tracks for those wanting some four-wheel-drive action, with reports of plenty of mud along the way.

Sunday morning arrived too quickly and after a light breakfast we slowly packed up camp for the long trip home. Once the dew dried off the gear it all packed neatly back into the trailer thanks to having a good storage system in place — something that definitely makes camping easier and more enjoyable.

Before leaving, Chloe and I climbed a hill on the property hoping for a great panoramic photo, only to be defeated by thick fog that limited visibility to barely a few metres !
Sadly we said goodbye around lunchtime and headed back towards home. Driving through the Barrington region really inspired me to return for another trip, with its beautiful autumn colours, rustic timber sheds and stunning scenery perfect for photography.

Overall, DFCE2018 was an amazing weekend filled with great people, camping, campfires and everything that makes the Aussie camping community so special.
Will we be back for the next DFCE ?
Absolutely. The only thing we’d change is making it longer — like any great camping trip, it simply just wasn’t long enough.

Drifta Fan Camping Event August 2018

What an absolutely awesome weekend we had at the Drifta Fans Camping Event at Camp Cobark.

The temperature was down and the fires were up. Got to meet a great bunch of including Ronny Dahl, Brett Hooker and most of all, met MrBuckaroonie for the first time.

I've long been a fan of Buck's YouTube channel and all of his selfless charity work so it was so great to finally meet him and his little dog Raffa.
It was actually my chat with Buck that inspired me to kick off my Youtube channel the same year.

A real highlight for me was displaying the handmade 1/10 scale Drifta DOT6 replica trailer I built for Luke Sutton beside the original DOT001.
It drew plenty of attention and thankfully Luke absolutely loved it.

We also got to meet some well-known names from the four-wheel-drive scene including #MrBuckaroonie and Raffa from 4 Wheeling In WA, #RonnyDahl from 4 Wheeling Australia, #Torben, #waynedv12 and Harry from #firetofork. We also caught up with Drifta owner, Luke Sutton and his son Kaito and also got to meet some lovely fellas in Brett Hooker and Tofty.

The weekend itself was incredibly relaxing — plenty of time spent around the fire pit with a beer or cuppa, reading 4x4 magazines and enjoying the peace and quiet. The kids also loved seeing a large group of horses gallop through the campground during the day.
